Repertoire: Renaissance, Baroque, pre-Classical
Founded in 2000, Hippocampus has given concerts in England, Germany and Spain. Under the direction of Alberto Martinez Molina, it has been resident artist for seven seasons in the J. S. Bach Cantata Series in Madrid.
Their repertoire includes more than 70 cantatas, the B Minor Mass, the six Brandenburg Concertos and the four Orchestral Suites by Bach. Richard Egarr is frequently invited to conduct the group.
On the Arsis label, they have recorded: Les Goûts Réunis, Op. 2 by J. Ph. Krieger, together with the violinist Jaap Schröder; Lasciatemi morire with Rachel Elliott; two live recordings of cantatas by J. S. Bach; and one dedicated to G. Sammartini, with Xavier Blanch as soloist, awarded Best Instrumental Baroque Recording, CD Compact, 2010.
